Wednesday 10th October- Ronald Webb Exhibition

When we got told that there was an artist's exhibition on in Blackburn, I really wanted to go. However, when we got there, I began to regret it, especially when Ronald - the artist, started talking.
His work has developed over a few years. The work that he had on display to sell was all abstract and just looked like paint splatters to me, but according to him, it was abstract. He brought this particular exhibition to Blackburn because the work he has produced for this exhibition was inspired by the music of Kathleen. He has painted pictures of her music (well, his interpretation of her music) using only oil paints, and layering them up. I wasn't really impressed with the paintings, and I didn't think they were worth what he was selling them at.. I would use them as backgrounds!

He had painted figuratively for 15 years, and then he decided that he wanted to find his own voice, so he turned to abstract art. I wouldn't really call it abstract though. According to Ronald, the secret behind a successful artist is that you should change your style, and shouldn't paint the same. People want to see something new, and this is important.
He mentioned that whilst he had been painting one of the paintings, a lady had walked into his studio and bought the painting he was working on! It feels to me as if he has found a gap in the "artistic market" and merely decided to fill it with his abstract work.
To be honest, I felt that going to see this artist was a waste of time.
