Thursday 22nd November - Clay/Blackburn College HE Talk

It felt like it had been ages since I had made the clay tiles. I had begun to think I wouldn't be seeing them again when Jo walked into the classroom holding them. It was time to glaze them.
The most annoying thing was that the glaze's were all solid and needed mixing with water to liquidise them. This took a while because I had to add water and leave it for a while to settle and mix in with the glaze. As I had made 2 tiles, one was a 3D flower and the other was a pattern. I decided to do the one with the pattern first as this was the one that was going to require more time and precise attention needed paying to it if I wanted to glaze it properly. This tile had been split into 4 smaller pieces to give it a mosaic like quality and feel which turned out to look quite good.
I got a very small paintbrush and started. I had known that this was a lengthy time consuming process but hadn't actually known the extent to which this was true. Usually, I am a very patient person, but this felt like it was just dragging! I got sick of having to stir the glaze and add water every now and again. Plus, I also had the 3D flower to glaze. When I finally got to glazing the flower, I just glazed it all blue. I hope it turns out alright!

In the afternoon, we had the tutors from Higher Education at Blackburn College come over and talk to us about the courses they do and the nature of the work on the course. We were told that this would only last 15 minutes, but was more like half an hour. Plus, they didn't really do a good job of selling the courses to us.. I'm definitely NOT going to be applying there!
