Tuesday 8th Januray - Pathways

Today was the first day back after Christmas, and it was all about building portfolios and preparing and finishing off work for them. I already felt like I had a big pile of work, and that there is no real need to add to that. What would be a better idea would be to improve what is already there by using different textiles techniques. We were told by our tutors that our work needed to be mounted onto card, but the last visiting lecturer that we had was a tutor from Camberwell, and she suggested that it was not necessary that our work should be mounted - she even said that they were perfectly capable of just looking at a pile of work! However, I think that if I were to go to an interview with just a big pile of work, I would most likely come across kind of lazy and that I don't care - that is one thing I am not so I don't want to portray myself to be something which I am not!
I sat there with my pile of work as I always seem to be doing, not knowing where to start. Danielle started going through the prints and the ones with similar colour waves were put together. I trimmed them down and mounted them onto white card. She suggested that I sew into a couple of them so all my work does not look like prints, and I have explored and used different techniques.
I used thread that stood out on the prints so it would be visible and contrast the colours of the print. I did this to these 2 prints and it took me the rest of the day. An interesting thing about these pieces was the back. I used some interface fabric or whatever it's called to stiffen the paper and that was black. I used blue and yellow thread which really stood out against the black. It's like a piece of art in itself!
